[Problem] Downloaded files reset to a certain percent when downloading ... Hi I'm new here but I've been having this problem for a while now. It's not that common but I download a file (usually 1gb+) and after certain time it resets back to a certain percent. Like just now I've downloaded 1.6gb+ worth a file and is at 97%, then it resets back to 42%. What seems to be the cause of this problem may I ask? Is it the uploader who blocked my ip/cancelled my connection? I've paused the download several times before but in one case the download reverses itself when I pause it! Weird ... Thanks in advance. |
Is this any help: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...wards-why.html :) There can be different reasons for it happening. And that does also include corruption within the users own preferences. Deleting preferences folder is an option but a last option since nowadays download history is now contained within the prefs folder. |
Thanks for the help! I really don't know what to search for in the search options regarding this problem. |
Did you look at the link I gave? Perhaps the file is actually finished or almost finished anyway. So if it plays to the end or until end titles then perhaps you can remove it from download folder, then cancel it from download window. :) |
I did. Unfortunately it's not finished (about 49mb left), I think imma continue downloading the corrupted file and see how it goes. Also Frostwire is a great app, I just hope that it has a manual hash check option (like Limewire? I can't remember) and remember which files did I pause when I reopen the app. |
FW is closely based on LW so the hash check style should be the same. :) AFAIK, FW if it follows LW, will attempt to redownload the corrupt/different parts of the file up to 6 times before it gives up. If it fails, then either live with what you have, if the last 49 MB does not take it to the end or there are missing parts in middle, then perhaps look at other sources. ;) |
Sorry late post, I was wondering if this happens because I keep disconnecting my connection while Frostwire is on? Just wondering ... |
Should not make a difference. If this is happening repeatedly, check the drive you are downloading to. Use your computer utilities to check the disk is ok. If using Vista, set FW to run as Admin via right-clicking the program shortcut & choosing that option. That is one known cause for problems with Vista. You could perhaps choose a different location to download to & see if that helps with future downloads. Some people have said that's how they solved their corruption issues. :) Other possible causes? A very old modem/router not parsing the data correctly. Or an over aggressive security program that is monitoring your downloads. |
