Frostwire getting little results for common searches I'm a newcomer, so excuse any blatant tones of naivety. 1. Windows XP 2. Using Avast for antivirus but Frostwire is an exception. 3. Just went from 256 mhz to 768 mhz of RAM 4. 51.5 GB free space available 5. Cable internet, with bandwidth higher than T3 6. Dynex router, model ARRIS 7. Connecting from a PC computer that's in the living room, the main internet connection is in the bedroom on my boyfriend's PC. 8. I have Frostwire version 4.18.5 9. Cox is the ISP. 10. Went to http://www3.limewire.com:6346/, says my test worked. 11. As above, I'm sharing a network with a PC in my bedroom that has the main internet connection. 12. This is a new problem for me, but I am 4 years experienced with Limewire/Frostwire. 13. I have a Turbo-Charged connection every time, all the time. And there is no brick wall, so a firewall isn't detected by it. 14. Port-forwarding is enabled for my router. 15. As above, I'm using Avast antivirus, and Frostwire is an exception. 16. I live in the United States. 17. I moved house in November, and I seem to remember not getting as many results streaming back then as well. I never had that problem where I used to live because I had Embarq/Centurylink, or for another reason that I'm unaware of. I've since updated Java and Frostwire, even tried Limewire Pro but that had the same problem. Almost no results showed up so I deleted it and returned to Frostwire. As for my issue, I'll open Frostwire, my recently increased RAM will open it instantly. I'll search for something common, or press Whats New and get practically nothing. A couple will show up but nothing that I'm looking for. In the Monitor Tab, I see there are a handful of outgoing connections with bandwidth of .0005 or something. I don't know if I need this since I'm on a leaf node client, but I thought that detail might help. In the mean time, I'm relying on torrents for music and it sucks because the individual songs I need for projects are out there waiting for me to download them, probably crying because I cannot. Please help a newcomer with a problem!!! Thanks, Nicolette. |

your ISP, which I can figure out because I'm a moderator here, is known for throttling p2p traffic....in a nutshell they suck cox... read the following post and follow the link Birdy gives.. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...wire-uses.html

Cox Well lilikitty (Nicolette) Cox, your ISP, has turned up in this forum before as being a particularly unfair provider, this thread: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...tp-prison.html, from November 2009 onwards, discusses the unfair treatment meted out by Cox to one of it's customers. The thing is Cox maybe "bandwidth shaping", i.e. restricting, your P2P connection, while leaving your normal browser connection untouched, that would explain why the various P2P apps you have tried do not work. Call your ISPs help desk and ask if they restrict P2P apps, they may deny it but some Internet research will turn up the truth. UK Bob |

Well, unfortunately the first step of the Fix For Isps Blocking Limewire worked but only for about 2 minutes. And the rest of that forum is to no avail since Frostwire has completely different settings and options. I also tried the number in the port-changing forum, 64049. Didn't seem to do anything. The only idea I can think of is to download Limewire, then try the Fix For Isps Blocking Limewire forum so that it can apply. But I won't do that until I get an OK or alternate plan from one of ya'll. As for changing ISPs, I really wish I could, but our internet is paid for by my boyfriend's business- and losing it means he loses his job. Hopefully he will so we can change ISP xD jk. Hope to read from you guys soon. ~Nicolette. |

Cox (Part 2) Just a quick thought lilikitty (Nicolette) If your Internet connection is paid for by your boyfriend's employers then any action, on your part, to circumvent the restrictions put in by Cox could get your boyfriend into trouble. You see, your boyfriend's username and password, which I presume you use as well, identifies your boyfriend and his employers to Cox. And as shown in the recent past, Cox will not hesitate to send a warning email/letter to the person (or persons) that pay the bill. Just something to consider before taking any kind of action. Well I've already downloaded a lot of torrents, movies and albums and even discographies, but kept them at a minimum. And nothing has come up in the mail yet. So it looks like if they see my bandwidth exploding enough to send me a letter... it won't happen anytime soon even if I get LW/FW working because downloading torrents wasn't enough for them to detect me. |

Muahaha, just an update for you guys since a breakthrough has come up in the past two days. I did step one of the Fix For ISPs etc etc process, from the link that Birdy gave. Although it was mainly for LW, it still worked for me by putting the number 6346 in the Listening Port box. Then I shut down FW, and then started it back up. Took like 30 seconds for it to charge up the connection not once, but twice. I pressed the New - Audio option and voila! Tons of results flooded my screen and not ones that I had seen before. If somehow it stops working, I'll let you guys know. So far it looks like I'll have to enter this number everytime I want to use FW but that beats having 3 results for common searches. Thanks for the helpful links ~Nicolette |
