Get Windows executable for all Phex versions. Hi... the next Phex release will include a Windows executable. To make sure it is running I'm looking for some people to test it. The executable should run on all current Windows systems and with all Phex versions. Just add the two files in the Zip archive into the same folder where the phex.jar is. Now just execute one of them. The Phex.exe should just start up Phex without displaying a command prompt window. The Phex_debug.exe start Phex with a command prompt window that displays some debug output about the startup process. I'm very interested in positive and negative feedback and the output when running the Phex_debug.exe. Thanks for your help. Gregor |
Both exe's don't work for me - win2k jre1.4 |
Do you get any output when running the phex_debug.exe in a command prompt? |

The best way to start a java application on windows is doubleclicking the jar. It should be associated to javaw.exe so phex starts w/o command prompt window. Or am I missing something ? Helge |
1 Attachment(s) You are not missing anything, but many people like to use a exe. So here is another try. I hope it works now ;-)... |
stupid thing make a launcher in a binary exec is very stupid, or you like to lose your time in very unintelligent code.... ? One previous post describe that a double click (or a double click on its link) appears to do the same thing (yes ! javaw..). I hope that was your first programming practice... bibifoc@webmails.com |
Sorry but I'm not sharing your opinion. Many users don't know what Java, javaw or a jar is. I get tons of mails asking me how to start Phex. You don't need to use it if you don't like to. |
Gregor, I used to get such mails all the time about AquaLime. You are right, many people have no clue about java. To fix it,I packaged it in an executable installer, that put optional shortcuts on the desktop and in the start menu. This way the users do not have to know about java at all, but there are still no executables used to launch it. (for me, having an .exe installer was bad enough, using them to launch the program seems weird) |
