Question Error in resumed avi's

Whenever I cannot download an avi movie in one go ang Furi resumes lateron, the avi is broken exactly at that point. The picture stops, but if you fast forward 2-3 minutes the movie is ok again. Has anyone experienced this ?

Yes, it is a common problem with resuming. That is why clients need to rollback to good data before resuming. As far as I know, no gnutella clients support this

Question

Does anybody know how this "rollback" actually should work? If I can figure out how it´s done I will try to include it into my client.

It really is pretty simple, at least in theory. Simply when the download stopped at x, the program tells the resume to start at x-y and overwrites the last y bytes or kb.

It would be best if you also added a few other features that should not be to difficult but would really make Furi one of the best clients.
-Remember downloads that have been queded and automatically search the network for the same file (file should have same name and size), and auto-resume.
-Split files available on multiple computers into many parts and download the different parts from different computers for faster downloads.

I would suggest that you also add support for meta-data (length, bitrate, resolution, ect...)

Adding these things would probably make this the best most popular client.
The only thing that BS might have over it would be chat is Defender (though I dont care about it).

I implemented the rollback thing, but there is another problem. LimeWire seems to screw up resumes. Furi tells it to start the download at let's say 2MB, but LimeWire sends the data from the beginning destroying the file.

yep, that is a HUGE problem. Its not your program, its limewire. It happens with bearshare too. I used to love limewire but now... well Im not too big of a fan at the moment. They have alot of work to do. I suggest that you add a feature to block limewire clients from downloading from your new client and send them a msg to upgrade to a client that supports resuming. Its for the good of the networks health and the sanity of its users. I have asked Vinnie of Bearshare to do the same, but I doubt he will, at least right now.

Any hope of the other features being added?

Be sure that you client can minimize to the tray and it would be great if you could set a password to prevent others from pulling it up.

Surf on over to Bearshare's feature reguest knowledge base for many great ideas
