A few Phex questions Hello, As a new gnutella user I recently instaled Phex (and java). It is the 3rd client i am trying (after Gnotella and Bearshare+Adaware http://forums.gnutelliums.com/wink.gif ). Bearshare and Gnotella have a more user friendly appearance, But when it comes down to downloading Phex seems to do better than the other two (fewer search results, but most of the results actually do start). Uploads seem to go better with the other two. And I have a few more questions : 1,Is there a way to improve the uploading ? 2,Is it possible to use the mouse scroll button ? 3,There is a box where you fill in your Chat Username, Where is the chat ? 4,Is it possible to somewhat make my ip address less visible ? (all these copyright things are heating up) Greetings, RaaF [This message has been edited by RaaF (edited 04-22-2001).] |
Hi RaaF These question really get to the point and I consider adding them to my FAQ, but here you get the answers immediately: > 1,Is there a way to improve the uploading ? The uploading largely depends on your upload settings. If you increase your upload speed limit and the number of simultaneous uplaods Phex will upload up to your machine´s ressources limit. And, in contrast to Limewire, Phex supports upload resuming. 2,Is it possible to use the mouse scroll button ? In the next version of Java (1.4) mouse scrolling will be implemented. At least, this is what I heard. If this is so, I will definitely add this feature to Phex. 3,There is a box where you fill in your Chat Username, Where is the chat ? Oops, this is some relict from the older times. The first thing I did with the original Furi (on which Phex is based) was stripping it off all unneccesary chat functionality. It seems I forgot to remove some items though. It will be done in a future release. 4,Is it possible to somewhat make my ip address less visible ? (all these copyright things are heating up) No way. This is one of those major drawbacks of gnutella, you simply can´t hide your IP. In fact, I have already gathered some information about freenet. As freenet is pure java it could be implemented into Phex, but it is too soon for that at the moment. I hope I could help, Konrad |
Thanks for your answers Konrad. I will try out the upload settings later, because i got a warning from my cableprovider that I allready exceeded my up-download limit for this month (2225Mb) Saying this, the Gnutella network seems to use a lot more Mb's than just needed for the up and downloads I had. Well I guess A lot got to do with settings, and i will dig into it later, when my fresh portion of Mb's arrive next month. Greetings , RaaF **Meanwhile i took a look at your website, and I noticed the 0.2.0 version I use is allready outdated, and about 5 min. ago your 2gb's where not all consumed http://forums.gnutelliums.com/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by RaaF (edited 04-22-2001).] |
