![]() PHEX rocks. Hi Konrad. I posted some suggestions on the open source site, PHEX suggestions. The connection speed is the main problem right now. It takes a long time, which will keep a lot of people from using it. It should connect to lets say 10 hosts at the same time initially, and once it has captured the number specified in Network Setup, remove the ones not needed (or increase the number, if someone has a high bandwidth and can use more than 10). With only 2 hosts connections specified, it can take several minutes to find a good one. With 10, that would be 1/5 of the time, right? Great program. Heaps of potential. Stay with it! Kind Regards Joe |

![]() I don´t get you completely. Initially Phex gets a list of hosts from the well know hostcatchers at limewire and gnutelliums. Once it recieved a list of hosts the connection process runs pretty fast on my machine. After about one minute I have 7 connections running which is more than enough. You know that you can set the number of connections in the network setup? |

![]() Hi Konrad. I'll try to explain what I mean: I use only 2 connections with my limited 50k max bandwidth. I specify this of course under the Network Setup. When PHEX starts up, and has lots of hosts in the host catcher, it will only try to connect to 2 hosts (which is what I specified). As not every host can be connected to successfully, it will try to next and so forth. Because it ever tries only 2 (or whatever is specified under Network setup) it takes quite a while. If it would try 10 simultaniously, regardless of what is specified in Network setup, it would drastically reduce the time PHEX needs to find hosts which except connections. (I believe Limewire does that too!). If it tries 10 instead of only 2, the time required to find 2 open hosts is not 3 or 5 minutes (my case) but should be 1/5 or so, e.g. less than one minute! Once PHEX has found 2 hosts (or whatever is pecified), it stops all the other trys on host connections. Now another improvement would be, that if already connected to let's say my 2 hosts, that if one becomes unavailable, then PHEX could be searching maybe 5 hosts (from the host catcher) to find another good one, and not just one. It is all about speeding up the time that one gets the connections up and keeping them up. I find that at the moment it is rather slow to connect, and when one connection fails, it takes again too long to find another good host, cause it looks like PHEX is ever only looking at the number of hosts it is supposed to keep up. It should try more then that, until connected. Phuh - I should have made it clear now, or? Am looking forward to your next version! And for everyone else: Make sure you enable the 'Passive Search' in 'Monitor Search'. It is an amazing feature! It comes up with more and better search answer at times then the main search window! ![]() Hhmmmm... this sounds like a good idea. However, it might take some time until we add this feature to Phex as we are more then busy adding other important stuff to it. But I will not forget about it, it shouldn´t be too complictated. |

![]() Hey Cary, You are so right! Hey Konrad! Check it out. I connected in no time to 4, from 10 selected manually in the host catcher! PHEX then slowly reduces to my max 2 set in Network setup! Perfect. KONRAD: One more suggestion: When starting PHEX up, it still has 'the old' hosts in the host catcher, which it will try to connect to. Now that's fine, if it is only a few hours since the last PHEX shutdown, but if it was a few days ago, PHEX will try to connect to all those long gone hosts, until it gets to the last one??? People who don't know this, and don't reset the host catcher will have a hard time to connect to anybody!!! Thought it very worth mentioning. Greetings JD |
