Question dropped downloads

Once a partially downloaded file is dropped from the active download page, how do you get it back on and restarted again? I have several large files in this condition and would hate to have to start them all over again.

I guess you are using Phex.

There is a way you can continue downloads that are no longer in your download list, but itīs a rather "unsafe" solution:

1. Search for the file in the gnutella network again
2. add it to the download list
3. go to the downloads panel and stop the download
4. overwrite the empty download file with you partially downloaded file (donīt forget the .dl extension)
5. resume the download

Phex will now recognize the partial download and append the download to it

However, if there is a difference between the file you attempt to download and the old file the download will be corrupted and there is now way to find out until you check this manually.

Yes, sorry, I am using phex. As far as I'm concerned it's the best out there for big files like movies. The solution you propsed is worth it for files more than half way done. Have you given any thoughts to writing a help directory for phex? That way us newbies could learn more about the settings as we mess with them.

There is a howto-section on the phex homepage. I will add some new howtos there. Itīs the closest thing to a help I can provide for now.

I have read all the faq's and help pages I could find but even on your help page you'll find:

3. Changing the default download waiting time

- find the file called "phex.cfg" somewhere on your system
- find the entry called "mDownloadRetryWait="
- enter the wainting time in miliseconds(!) (e.g. 10000 equals 10 seconds)
- save the changes and restart Phex

but you don't say what to change it to or why to change it.

Is there a good source of terms used in p2p that are not to technical?

Thanks,
Ed
