I'm going to think of an integration with the programs you mentioned and an 'open dialog', sounds like a good thing to have. I will just check out how it fits in the concept with Mac OS X.

I know that installation is a bit tricky. For Windows there is already a self-installer. If you know how to create a self-installer for Linux, you can maybe help to us too. Unfortunately I don't know enough about Linux to create one myself.

I can actually do a simple installer in Bash, to install java, and set it up, like

echo " INstalling java"
<here goes all the menu code bla bla"
sh java.sh
export lines
export bla bla
copy to browser path
echo " done",

Wich is pretty easy to just create a bash script. that installs java for you.

Do you think it is also possible to implement a script that detects the Java settings of the system and uses these settings to start Phex?

Hi I am running suse 8 and I am having a hard time to say the least installing phex.I don't know much about writing code , but QT or GTK sounds good to me and how about a rpm or tar file instead of .zip.

odd... running gentoo here, and all I did was unzip phex_blah.zip and then java -jar phex.jar

My problem is, I'm connected to 64 hosts, through BearShare, and even though there are 17GB (supposedly,) searches are turning up nothing =(

This program seems to have the potetial to be a good rival for kazaa lite (segmented downloads etc,) but so far, I see no reason why I shouldn't boot into windows and use kazaa in stead (or run it with wine.) right now, kazaa lite returns relevant results on every search. You are almost guaranteed to find what you are looking for. What would it take for Phex to be as powerful?

I like the user interface, I think it's simple, and easy to use. I've been using LimeWire because it is the only one that gets me results in linux at the moment.. and I'm really trying hard to use Phex instead because limewire is a bit too flashy for me.

I used to use Phex all the time up to 7.2
Since 7.3 I seem to have problems to connect to others hosts as others have suggested. I got some connections but far fewer than before and very few search results.

I've changed my phex.hosts as suggested here. With over 5mn uptime, I still haven't connected to a single host.

I'm dying for a solution...

For gentoo there is an ebuild, which you can simply emerge.
