Angry Macphex 8 won't open

Downloaded the beta Macphex 8 last week, it worked great 3 or 4 times, but now it the window closes up immediately after the program opens and the icon disappears from the dock. I've deleted the program and reinstalled it to no avail and I even tried using Macphex 7 but nothing works. I assume it's corrupt preferences because if I log-in as a different user the program works just fine. What I need to know is which preferences were installed with this program so I can trash them. I've been in the Library folder and tried deleting some prefs I thought might be the culprits but I've had no luck so far, any assistance would be appreciated. I use OS X on a G4 cube, 256 RAM. Thank you

Delete the .phex folder in your home directory.

Default no ".phex folder" on my computer

Thank you for your reply, however, I cannot find a "phex" folder in the home directory. I searched the harddrive with Sherlock and only found one item with Phex in the name and that was the "MacPhex os_X" folder in Applications directory. Deleting and reinstalling that folder (application) didn't help, the program still closes immediately upon opening.

The folder might not be visible to you since it has a leading . which means its a hidden folder.

Please try this...

- Open a command prompt or shell and type:
cd
- You should be in your home folder now, now type:
ls -la
- You should see all your files including a .phex directory, now type:
rm -r .phex
- This should delete the .phex folder.

Default "illegal option"

One more question. I've never used Terminal before but following your directions I was able to open a shell and see the list of my files but when I typed
rm -r. phex
I got a message that said "illegal option". I tried it twice and got the same message. I used a space after the m and a space after the . is that correct? Macphex still won't open so the folder must still be there. I truly appreciate your assistance with this. Thank you! Macvoyager

No.
"rm" is the command "remove"
"-r" is the option for "recursive"
".phex" is the folder to delete (the dot is part of the folders name).
so type:
rm_-r_.phex
with underscores converted to spaces...

Smile THANKS!

Thanks for your reply Helge, the command deleted the bad file and now I'm able to use Macphex again. I appreciate the prompt responses to my questions and all your help, now I have a better idea how the terminal works as well as having my problem solved. Macvoyager
