Exclamation Phex 0.8 BETA released

This is a unstable beta release of Phex 0.8 build 21.
You might encounter a few bugs and problems using it and I would very much appreciate it, if you report anything you notice.

You can download it here:
http://www.sf.net/projects/phex

Thanks,
Gregor

Lightbulb Yes Works Great - Only->

I notice it hogs every free CPU cycle it can - even if there is hardly anything to do ...
Like right now I disconnected and even in the background it still uses between 90 and 98 % of the CPU
I am using it in Win2000pro and Sun Java 1.4.0_01-b03
When in the foreground it uses 75 MB memory and in the background still about the same as IE6.0 ~35MB
But continuously the cycle hogging - right now there is just one upload going on, disconnected from the peers and a few download candidates still waiting for further hours...
Must be something in the tread management...

I noticed it because sometimes the machine seems to freeze for short time periods (then even the mouse doesn’t move...

I verified all aspects up and download except passive search...
I like the way the multiple searches have been implemented and how gcache made it connect relatively quickly even though my generic ports 6346... are completely blocked by my administrators...
Other thing I just noticed even though I was disconnected an incoming connection was still accepted - that should be adjustable, no?
And the CPU usage has more variance than above mentioned

Anyhow Felicidades Glückwünsche and all !

I would be very interested to know what is using up all the processor time inside Phex..... just some questions to try to find the problem.

How many files are you sharing? Are all files already hashed? Maybe they are hashed again on each restart (a bug)?
How many parallel downloads did you configure?
How many downloads do you have in your download list?

If you are a bit familiar with Windows, Can you start Phex with the Debug Link, wait a couple of minutes or an hour and send me a thread dump? You can create the thread dump by pressing CTRL-BREAK in the debug concole. You might need to enlarge the screen buffer to see the full dump. Just ask if you need help doing this.

Arrow Update

First getting into it the second time I got a n error messagre see attached aout urns in the download xml beeing null after I fixed that (by copying some other urns there) it started upo nice...

Now I watched the CPU use while rehashing (which it does apparently from scratch) and it only reaches 36 % leaving more than 60 idle percents...

I don't know what it was the other day apparently it does'nt do it all the time... I hav then been sharing about 18 GB and as I said all the downloads in my list were allready saying waiting for hours...
I post again if I see it happen again and notice why!

The error you describe is a bug. It is already fixed in the source you can get from the Phex CVS.
A new release will be made soon.

Hashing 18GB takes a long long time. You should maybe not share more then 2000 to 5000 files. This might create performance problems. It should not be a problem if you share less files. Just that it takes long to hash them.
Each file is only hashed once and the hash is stored. On next restart of Phex it should be available right away.
