New UI for Phex? Is there some chance, that phex might get a new User Interface? I don't know, if you ever used Acquisition, but if not, you should try it on a friends Mac. You have less information in it, than in phex, but it is a real piece of design. The limewire engine below it bugs me, but its usability is really up in the clouds. |
I'm open to any new and improved UI designes but this is a lot work and I would need help to do this. Do you know or can recommend me any good Java UI developers who would enjoy redesigning the Phex UI? Gregor |
Use a HTTP based UI Thats my idea this way people could more easyly run phex remotely... |

HTTP based UIs would need to be much more static. Its not easy to handle updates like new arrived search results and display them in time. Think about how much stuff changes every second in the current Phex UI. And how much HTTP traffic this would create to update in time. That is very hard to handle all that. Only if you would accept much much slower updates. Gregor |
Hi... I during the design of a new better search concept and it will also include a new search UI. I think this could also be the place to start to design a new Phex UI. It would be great if you could send me some input of what you like to see, how it should work, what can be improved. The main topics are to move the search term entry from the top to the left of the pane and to replace the drop down list with the running searches with a multi-line table at the top of the pane. If you have any design ideas or different layout suggestions I'm very open to anything and like to implement the design that suites best for your needs. So please send me drafts, outlines, or descriptions of what you would like to see and help me to get Phex better. Thanks, Gregor |
Phex has the best user interface of any Java based program I just wanted to say I think Phex has the best user interface of any Java based program I've ever used. It looks great and it's simple to use! Good job Phex developers! Is it JFC/Swing? |
1 Attachment(s) Thank... thats nice to hear. JFC/Swing is used for the UI and we integrated many custom components like our own table to make it work better. Check out how the new search interface could look like and please tell me what you think about it. |
