Default Feature Req: More than one network simultaneously

I'd like to connect to subnetworks, while I also connect to the general gnutella network.

That way, subnetworks could be used at last. (At least I can't use them, because I'd have to stop sharing in the GNet for that).

Maybe you could distribute the connections on the networks, and add one connection for each additional network.

Are you talking about supporting an other network like ED2K? If yes, this is a bad idea. First Gregor seems to be the only developper and there plenty of stuff to do on the gnet to keep him busy for years. Second multi network clients tend to become bad for all the networks it connects too (take all the bandwith it can in download, give only a part of the upload since it has to separate it accross networks) and it leads to many problems for the users of those programs: high memory and cpu usage, more crashes.... in short it sucks. If all clients would implement gnet correctly (ie: not like GnuDNA mainly for morpheus and gnucleus) Gnet would be much better and you wouldn't even ask for other network connections. As of now, Overnet is the fastest for big files (it connects to only one network) and Limewire or Phex are the best for speedy under 100 megs needs (they also connect to only one network).

Bad more networks, VERY bad (imagine a world where every1 uses a multi-net client, speed would be awful since bandwith would sink in all the connections (sources, queues, network) to the clients. Too much overhead.

À+

No, not new networks, but have you looked at the switch-network menu-item?

There I can join the network "Filk" (which is a virtual network, using the GNutella-protocol), but then I'm no longer part of the general gnutella network.

I want to be able to connect to both of them at once, both using the gnutella network architecture.

ok first to multi network support. This is something I dont want for Phex. I dont like multi network clients and very much agree with et voilà.

Connecting to different sub networks would basically be possible but would make message routing a lot more complicated as it is now already. Also I have no clue how many users are really using this Switch Network function. Its a old relict from Furi and might be a neet feature but is this feature used by anyone??

I would, if I could still stay connected to the General Gnutella Network, while doing so.
