![]() i put phex in a new folder, where it can live in peace. after starting, it puts all his config/log/host files in my home directory. ![]() why can phex not put _its_ files in _its_ folder? (or at least create _one_ hidden file) or is there maybe a option for that? |

![]() The original Furi was most likely created on a multi-user-system (like al Linux/Unix systems). By putting and reading all dynamically created files from your user-directory Phex is a multi-user program because different users can store different configurations and download-lists. |

![]() but would'n it be possible to put a simple .phexrc in the user's homedir? or to create _one_ directory where to store all the needed files and maybe to add a option to choose that directory. (so I can name it ~/.myphex or /etc/globalphex) that would be great! |

![]() Creating a ".phex" directory wouldnt be a bad idea (although the current user base may find it awkward if there is any transitional issues). There are other java applications (like jext for example) I use under win98 that do the same thing so I dont think it should be a problem. But either way this is a small thing, I think you have done a great job... ![]() |

![]() You are right. The default behavior is not nice for unix systems. It should store the files with a leading dot on these systems for default. But the way of choice to start phex on a unix system would be to write a very small shell script that calls phex with an option that specifies the place of the config file. I'm using ~/etc/.phex.cfg as parameter. In this config file are parameters pointing to the other phex files in the same dir. By the way, what do You think of the concept of an etc dir in home. This would tidy up the home directory. Should phex use an ~/etc dir for default? Should phex create such a directory or just use it if available? Alexander |
