Default Phex 2.2 FINAL released

After a long beta cycle the Phex team is proud to present you Phex 2.2, finally a stable release.

Get Phex now at : http://phex.kouk.de

Most notably in this release are the download improvements, mostly implemented by Nick Farrell. You will notice a much better download segmentation with dynamic sizes based on the candidates speed. Slow candidates get smaller segments then faster candidates. Also slow candidates will give partly downloaded segments to available faster candidates.
An improved segment selection will make sure you start downloading the rarest parts and the beginning of the file first. You can even select your preferred download strategy.

As the first file-sharing program Phex features MAGMA (MAGnet MAnifest) file support. A magma-list is in essence an easy way to share your list of most loved files with your friends. It contains a collection of magnets.
Read more about MAGMA in the Phex forum:
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=34756
And check the specs from Arne Bab:
http://gnuticles.de/MAGMA-Specsv22.txt

The new Library coming with this release supports you to create MAGMA files and offers a more easy way to find, share and filter your files.

To stay up-to-date with the Gnutella protocol this Phex release supports:
- PushProxy proposal
- The newest vendor messages
- Magnet and MAGMA support
- Compatibility with Limewire "good host" rating
and many other updates...

Thanks to Arne Bab we are again able to release a Mac OS X version.

First comments:

1) why does a Phex UP does not cconnect to 32 UP and 30 leaves by default? 16 UP and 15 leaves is not like the rest of the network topology.

2) when in UP mode I get my 32 (my setting) UP peers easily, but in 30 minutees I have not get one leave? Do Phex pongs for leaves?

Ciao

Connecting to 32 UP and 31 leaves is the Phex default setting on a new installation of Phex 2.2. You might have an older installation where this number was lower. The reason the numbers were lower is because Phex has a lower minimum bandwidth limit for UP election.

To update your settings to the default you can remove the following entries from your phex.cfg:
up2upConnections
up2leafConnections
up2peerConnections
leaf2upConnections
leaf2peerConnections

Phex advertises itself as Ultrapeer in handshakes, Pongs and GWebCaches.
Phex is not activly searching for Leafs, Leafs are responsible to connect to UPs by themself.
You could have a low number of leafs because no incoming connections can reach you (firewall), vendor preference of leafs, or some kind of bug I'm not aware of yet ;-)

Merci, GregorK. I deleted the .phex folder and Phex restart with 32 UP and 31 leaves settings. (Phex should really use the preferences folder like other os x apps @ /users/youruser/library/preferences, and not make the perfs folder invisible: a folder with named .phex is invisible on os x).

I also got leaves (I tested with home Gnucleus leave). Weird thing is that I have a LW 4.0.5 leave.... Those are supposed to connect ONLY to LW UPs

PS: any way Phex could tell the user it is firewalled?

Ciao
