initial download segment size? what does initial download segment size mean? Total parallel downloads is how many downloads going at one time and Max Downloads per file is how many servers that i'm downloading that file from right? |
The next release will contain the following fly-over messages: Total parallel downloads: The total number of parallel connections you are downloading from. Max downloads per file: The max number of parallel download connections per file. Initial download segment size (Kb): The segment size initialy requested per connection. It's dynamicaly adjusted per request depending on connection transfer speed and "Target time per segment". Target time per segment (seconds): Used together with the "Initial download segment size" to dynamicaly adjust the segment size to try to fit the specified target time. Do you think there are usefull to make things more clear? |
so do you know what a good setting would be for a person with a cable connection? those are good understandable descriptions it is just that i want to get the best out of Phex because it is a great program. |
Total parallel connections between 10 and 30 should work good.. depending on your system CPU and memory... How much you spend on a single file depends on how much priority you give to a single file. The higher the downloads per file is the lower is the chance that you download more then one file in parallel. I usually use half of the total. The segment size and target time depends on your usuall download size and waiting tolerance. A segment size from 16 to 256 is usually good. After that the target time comes into play.. I dont mind waiting a while for the last segments. Thats why I have this value usually at 5 minutes. You should not go below 16Kb and 60 sec. though... It will raise the transfer overhead... |
Thanks alot :) |
