Here's the link to test the port. Yep, tried it and it said the test worked.

http://www3.limewire.com:6346/

Ok, so it sounds like my computer is not receiving the incoming connection request. I'm not using a router but I am using a hub. However, the results are the same whether or not the hub is in the loop.

Also, it seems my success is intermittent. As an experiment I DL'd a file and I got a good DL speed. I deleted it and waited 10 minutes and DL'd it again. Good speed. I repeated this 6 more times and I only got three good DL's...the rest sucked.

Still trying to wrap myself around this incoming connection. Would any of the settings in Phex's firewall/proxy menu affect my situation?

If you are not using a proxy what I assume the firewall/proxy settings dont help.

Can you try this link, while Phex is running and connecting. Type in the port Phex is configured to use.

And post the detail log ( hidden initially ) of the results.

Phex sometimes doesn't recognize you as not being behind a firewall.

I sometimes see the firewalled-icon, sometimes not, so this might be a bug, since my ports are completely forwarded.

But even if Phex recognizes this wrong, you should see incoming connections. Never seen an incoming connections is a pretty good indicator that somewhere something is blocked.

Well, early this morning I found an old thread discussing the possibility of some ISP's blocking P2P ports so I changed my port to one of the recommended free ports. Nothing.

Tested with the link I provided and it says the test worked. Tested with the link you provided and I'm not showing a connection. Here's the log:

Data dump: v1.9rc3,to=5,ipf=no,ip=70.58.133.135,proxy=,port=5 1222,lang=en,el=0,php=4.3.2
host=www.shareaza-france.com,path=/test/index.php,t=2005-11-15T15:00:08Z

Start connection test for TCP...
Get socket.
Attempt to connect to 70.58.133.135 on port 51222.
socket_connect() failed, error 115: Operation now in progress.
(Ignore the previous error reason, it's a timeout instead.)
Close socket.
Done, return code: 'TIMEOUT'.

Start connection test for UDP...
Get socket.
Attempt to bind to 0.0.0.0 on any port.
Send /JCT: 3x12 bytes: GND\002sq\001\001\020JCT
Read response:
No proper answer received.
Close socket.
Done, return code: 'NOTHING'.

I just discovered something! My DSL modem is actually a router! Wish they would have told me this in the first place!

Now I have to figure out how the hell to configure it properly. It's an Actiontec GT701-WG DSL Gateway. I know how to access its internal funtions but I still have to figure out what to change.

The first link that worked was an outgoing connection attempt. While the second link I send you tested your incoming connection abilities. The timeout shows that you are not reachable.

Try this to configure port forwarding for your router:

Wow...finally!!!! It works!!!! Although it wasn't as easy as one would think. When I first went into the router it detected that the firmware was out of date so I went to the update site and took care of that. Well, that screwed up the router so I had no internet. After an hour on tech support they told me to reflash the bios with the original CD. Yeah right...that was almost two years ago! I don't have that damn thing! So, he told me where to download it. Does me a lot of good with no internet, huh?

So, I go to work and figure I'll get it there. Nope, their server is down. So I go to the library. They only have 3.5" no CD burners. So, I get some disks and create a spanned ZIP file. Get home and the disks aren't working. I go back and do it again. Come home and try to open the files. Doesn't work. Hmmm...I use WinRAR instead of WinZIP and RAR doesn't support spanned ZIPs!!! URGH!!! Luckily I had my daughter's computer nearby which did have WinZIP so I connected hers to the modem and worked from there.

After that I followed the port forward instructions and I'm now a happy camper (after several hours of torment after the modem died).

I've been playing with Phex since then and I must say I am impressed with it! I do like it much better than any of the other clients I've used thus far.

Thanks for helping me out on this one GregorK! I would have been stuck as a LW user otherwise! *shudder*
