Maybe if someone makes such a thing. It will not replace the normal ebuilds though because the distfiles of a cvs-ebuild can't be mirrored and getting the files is totally dependant on the cvs server. cvs snapshots are fine though.
I will report other things if I find them.
Not really. The current ebuild is just outdated and does not follow the Gentoo Java policy and there doesn't seem to be anyone else interested in cleaning it.
I haven't had anything to do with the current stuff in the tree.
