Default :::Can Phex be modified to...:::

Is there a way to cache/curl/etc... all shared files (by user) on the server so if a user is offline, their files are still available?

Looking into installing this in our "SMALL" office... and someone is always gone and it would be nice to be able to find their forms when they are offline for any reason.

Thanks,
Greg

I would venture to say no, but only on the basis that Phex is not a client-server application. It's client to client (or peer to peer as it's been called) so there is no "server" to cache the files to. This is the whole basis behind this type of networking.

Now, since we're dealing with software, could it be modified to cache all your files to an alternate site for others to retrieve (or vice versa), sure, but i doubt anyone here will do the work. It's just not practical and it goes completely against the concept of P2P file transfers.

If you are truly in a small office, I recommend having some alternate file replication software installed to copy files between directories. There are hundreds of apps out there for that. Windows has a few functions built in (like offline file settings and briefcase) but you could also use a server OS to do it.

You can browse the host of each user from time to time and download all files to the server (given that the server also runs Phex).

That would be the closest thing to "curl"-ing the files, I think.

Just click browse host.

Also you could modify the Server, so that it browses and downloads in given intervals, but that could be a bit of work.

If it is worth a bit of money for you to have that feature in Phex, you could consider setting a bounty.

With a bit of luck, someone will implement the feature to claim the bounty.
