Lightbulb Phex feature requests

Phex is a solid program -- cross-platform, stable, and works very well. Here's some features I'd really like to see added to Phex:

* Continuous search: when a search is performed, continue searching the network indefinetely until the search query box is closed manually. Xolox does this, and returns far more results than any other app out there.

* Partial file downloading: if a user has a partial file, portions of it can be downloaded by others who are downloading the file from multiple sources. Xolox also does this, and it really speeds up download times (and helps the network a lot).

* Better interface: the colors and buttons are great, but the columns are too cluttered, and some input boxes appear to be missing in resolutions under 1024x768 pixels. Use kilobytes instead of bytes when displaying file sizes and progress meters.

I definitly agree and think that should be not too dificult to implement the only really new thing would have to be the mecanism that interrupts an upload if the hosts download is 'overrun' - Besides that obviously the new Shared file type that can publish that file as shared even thoug it has a .dl extension

I disagree for sure on the KB issue it is important sometimes to see that exact byte number to find and recognize more likely identical versions (Who know if a changed MP3 tag appends in front or after ? it may make enough difference to be aware of)

IMHO, the option to view bytes should always be available, though some setting to view other ways might be nice. Wheras currently a set of files in the search window would be listed (under Size) like this:

2862120963
67502080
373530

(right aligned, of course)

Some alternatives which might be nice to see:

separation with periods or commas (Europe/North America)

2.862.120.963
67.502.080
373.530

2,862,120,963
67,502,080
373,530

KB:

286212 KB
67502 KB
374 KB

to nearest prefix:

2.86 GB
67.5 MB
374 KB

Thumbs up

Today is my first day using phex; one thing i miss right off is the ability to _minimize to system tray_.

I don't know if this can be done in java, might be worth looking into.
