How a Gnutella client finds another

Gnutella claims that this is on central server for it. I am curious about how a Gnutella could find another one which is close to it?
Of course one Gnutella can send query to all the IPs of its network with the sepecific port to see if there is another one in this IP. But this is not so reasonable. If the client is in a class A network and there is no other client in the same network, then it will search a huge number of IPs for nothing.

Any one has an idea?

Thanks

The aforementioned Gnutella web caching system is one means.

Gnucleus has also pioneered using IRC networks not only so Gnucleus users can chat with one another, but so that they can automatically be connected to other Gnucleus users as well.

And then there's the old host caches like connect1.gnutellanet.com, connect2.gnutellanet.com etc.

You can no longer connect to the old host caches?
