Client implementation

Dear friends
I am a new entry for this forum.

I ask your help for the following problem:
I need to implement a Gnutella client (version 0.6).

I prefer to implement it in c

Could you help me to set a reasonable plan

what is the list of documents that I have to study?
is there a "very simple" client that I can study ?
etc etc
