Just make sure you use an IRCnet server near to you!
http://www.ircnet.com/servers.html (e.g. irc-1.stealth.net for USA)

PS: Plz do NOT use irc.openprojects.net, it's cool but a different network to which we use.

I can'r connect to almost any server at all. mIRC just keeps telling me:

[17:38] -(server)- *** No Ident response

Closing Link: 0.0.0.0 (Invalid username [~*])

Any Ideas?

With mIRC: File - Options - Connect - Ident
"Enable Ident server", it should be default ON, perhaps you disabled it?

I'm using a different IRC network now, specialized on filesharing.
You can use the following server in your IRC-client (e.g. mIRC):

irc.p2pchat.org

or directly chat with your webbrowser (java plugin):
http://www.p2pchat.org/chatdbg.htm

either you're behind a firewall or you're running an IRC client without an IdentD server built into it, in either case the Ident port (I think its 113) needs to send a simple reply to the IRC server to give it info on you (really silly since you can fake the info anyways) but thats another topic...

There are a lot of Gnutella programs that are not listed anyware like freewire and mynapster....
