Gnutella and Instant Messages
 

I am trying to figure out if it is possible to send instant messages to some of the guys who are sharing files through Gnutella?
Does anyone know if there is a distributed instant message system?
I am thinking about implementing a protocol to make this thing possible as a college project. Any hints? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

this idea has come up a many of times, basically trying to implment a decent char without servers is a f-ing bitch. http://forums.gnutelliums.com/smile.gif Now, clients could say support the ability to send direct instant meassages, since that would be a client thing, it wouldn't mess up the current protocol. That would be cool.
