The way Gnutella should be How do you make money? Ad-Aware is also free, so what's your business model? We do offer an enhanced version of Ad-Aware called Ad-Aware Plus, [which costs $15]. But money is not the primary goal and has never been; it's mainly used to pay the server and bandwidth costs. We all have "regular" jobs or are students, and do this in our spare time (although it uses up a lot). If Lavasoft can do it, so can Gnutella client vendors. With open source you can use sourceforge and other sites to distribute your clients, so there is no bandwidth costs at all. There is no excuse for a Gnutella client to contain adware/spyware. From a interview with Nicholas Stark of Ad-Aware http://salon.com/tech/feature/2002/0...are/index.html |

You can see how Bill Gates will claw his way all the way down the crapper. Watch as Vinnie does the same. GPL is about to kill microsoft, and he knows it. "In the text of the license agreement Microsoft mentions two specific patents that relate to the CIFS/SMB protocol. The license grants a royalty free license to these patents, but specifically excludes free software distributed under the GNU General Public License from this royalty free patent license." http://us1.samba.org/samba/ms_license.html |

There wouldn't be many of the features LimeWire has if it would depend on open source developers to work on it in their spare time. - With six developers, they are working (I guess) about 300 man/hours on LimeWire every week, - you would need at least 20-30 open-source developers to do the same work. Don't forget that many successful open-source projects have full-time developers working on them, e.g. OpenOffice (sponsored by Sun), Mozilla (by AOL/TW), the Linux Kernel (paid by various Linux distributions, IBM, HP, Sun...). The GIMP for example is done by open-source developers in their free time, and all they manage is a point release every other year. |

Open source and trying to make money is stupid! It is fully legal to take all annoying things out and provide your OWN clean version! You need only one coder for this!!! So if they want to make money they should not open the source! Open source is MAINLY developed by private persons! It doesn´t matter how many developers you need for the same job as long the product is FREE! SEE debian Linux! Morgwen |
