Can't connect with Limewire or Napster

For several weeks I was happily using Napster. Then I downloaded Limewire and installed it. Since then neither has been able to connect to anything. I've done the whole uninstall-clean-reinstall bit several times to no avail. I'm connected thru a LAN, using Novell to the College server which then ties in to inet. I have no problem connecting to the internet. One person on the napster forum suggested that a registry flag has been set to an off position, but when I tried regedit, the network informed me that "registry editing has been disabled by your administrator." Since they wouldn't like my 'wasting' time by downloading MP3's I haven't talked to them about it. Help!! Any ideas greatly appreciated.

First off...

Limewire is not Napster... never has been never will be...

Second....

Limewire is not Gnutella... never has been never will...

Gnutella is the name of the network... Limewire is a Gnutella network browser... think in terms of the WWW (world wide web). There is the network (ie: all the web pages) and you view those pages with a web browser (ie Netscape & IE).

Limewire allows you to connect to the gnutella network... this is entirely different than the Napster netowrk.

The only way to get back on Napster if you got booted is to edit your registry... and since you can't...

Gnutella is probably being block by your network admin... try changing the port that limewire operates on... go to options and then to the "network" tab... change the listening port to another number...

depending on how the network is set up this may work... your best bets are to try the following ports (they are ussually not blocked cause they are needed for other things):

21
80
8080
110

If you these don't work than chances are you aren't going to get on... sorry...
