Socks As I'm behind a firewall and my Admin didn't set up a Socks server , I'm using Sockscap + HHTPport to connect the gnutella network. Sockscap enable my client to connect a socks server and HTTPport is a personal Socks4 server using HTTP tunneling.... Something's not right : I manage to connect to some hosts but they quickly close the connection or the connection becomes timed out.. Do you have any suggestion to help me becoming part of the gnutella network ?? |

I see that without a firewall, several clients had problems with push requests. Till everyone upgrades you will see this (I won't say the name of the program but it sounds like smokey the forest ranger guy or a creature that hangs around picknic baskets) |

I heard that ToadNode was the only client that supports Socks (not sure tough). But ToadNode has a bug so it doesnt work. I tried the same, but I failed too. Hey, if you work it out please mail me or at least post it here for others sjoerd@microsith.com |

I just made some progress. (not much, but it is a start) I run HTTPort like this: Local Port: 6346 Remote Host: gnutellahosts.com Remote Port: 6346 And SocksCap like this: Socks Server(v4): 127.0.0.1 1080 To run BearShare "sockisfied" When i run GNetWiz "sockisfied" with this configuration it says BearShare should work fine. Now BearShare says this: gnutellahosts.com: Trying -> Connected 10s 9s ... 0s Service -> Closed router.limewire.com: Times out (which is logic, becouse it isnt in HTTPort) HTTPort says stuff like this: ------------------------------------ SOCKS4[24.131.163.246:6346]: 0103 Invalid connection id ------------------------------------ SOCKS4[172.144.230.79:6346]: 0103 Invalid connection id ------------------------------------ SOCKS4[206.132.188.135:6346]: 0202 Connection state closed ------------------------------------ I cannot change any setting in the firewall, so thats why i have to tunnel thru the company's proxy (80) Maybe someone can help me on this, thx |

I'm behind a SOCKS-Server, too (university) and found out that not every client seems to work with Sockscap - usually I saw some hosts, but they quickly disappeared again. So maybe it's not your server settings but just the wrong client: For me Bearshare didn't work, Limewire worked fine in V1.2, whereas the new version 1.3 does not and Gnotella only worked when I changed the portnumber to numbers around 8000. Hope that helps... |

gnutella clients and SOCKS I tried SOCKSCAP32 with: - Bearshare: No way to have it running trough socks - FileTopia: seemed to run, but was not able to download or search, only chat. So I think it doens't work. - GNOTELLA: YES! It runs socksified! So I use Gnotella! SRKea |
