Default Firewall default deny

Yip a uni firewall

Set default deny in both directions. So 6346 is blocked

I have ports that I can connect on eg 22 6000 etc

However!! I cannot connect everyone seems to say there should be no problem with connecting initially since it is like a web browser. but I can't!
It looks to me like gtk-gnutella /limewire is trying to connect to servers on port 6346. Hence blocked.
I know my web browsing runs through a SQUID proxy server not direct.
Would this be what is upsetting it?
Are there any linux gnutella clients that could use this proxy?

Many thanks

As I recall you can set up the port to connect to.
But since most Gnutella clients are listening on Port 6346 you cant connect unless a client has another Port which he listens on.

In fact you can connect to gnutella without opening the listening port. You just can't accept any incoming connections and have to upload files by push.

What does the connect actually do, does it use the 6346 port and can I set any client to use my proxy?

gtk-gnutella has sort of a proxy support, but it doesn't work very smoothly, if you ask me.

Port 6346 is your listening port. That's were other clients connect, when they want to open a gnutella 0.6/0.4 connection or when they want to download any files. But that's also the port where other firewalled hosts would connect to you when you want to download a file from them.

If you close your client's listening port you can't download from firewalled hosts.
