"Everytime Limewire takes one step closer Shareaza puts them farther behind"
Stupid statement, since the LimeWire developers don't even try comparing to Shareaza and their current focus seems slightly different from Shareaza's. For example they have not even started working on partial filesharing and I haven't seen much effort put into gnutella weblinks either.

Shareaza has some new features but most of them are effectively not working since 95% of the gnutella network don't support them. Partial file-sharing is nice, but when nobody but Shareaza users are sharing partial files, it simply doesn't increase performance. And gnutella weblinks are fine too, but with a weblink you can't download anything from new Morpheus (which will make up for at least half of GNET and which doesn't even support SHA1 hashes as it seems).

I like Limewire when it works. And have been using Shareaza for a week. It looks good, but most of the files I d/l end up being "unsafe". I'm not sure what that is about. I tried Bearshare and immediately deleted it because of all the crap it installed. Also tried xolox but it never worked.

Default Unsafe files

I'd say that 99% of the unsafe files are actualy fine. This is just a bug with how shareaza works with win 2K, I believe. Check the Shareaza forums. I've checked files which were unsafe and all the one's I've downloaded have been fine. Stick with Shareaza and wait for the next the 1.6 release. I have the virus protection as well as a firewall to protect me from most viruses and rogue executable codes so I am confident that the unsafe files are actually fine.

Good luck.

I always thought that was a Shareaza feature just wanting folks to be careful... I do not think that the program is examining a file in any way. I was in the IT group at a company for a while and I can't tell you how many folks would read a memo about not opening an unknown file... would turn around and do just that and then call complaining that their virus protection program kept popping up telling them they had a virus.... they could have cared less that they had a virus... they were annoyed that they were getting a pop-up telling them that the file was infected.... go figure.

Default Unsafe files

By the way, Shareaza 1.6 is released today!!! You shouldn't see too many issues with the unsafe files anyway. I believe what shareaza does is compare the files to SHA1 integrity. http://www.w3.org/PICS/DSig/SHA1_1_0.html . There was some reason why the files did not did not match to their hash codes and they were deemed unsafe. I believe it is fixed in 1.6. Anyway there is http://bitzi.com/ which is a meta database for files and these applications will compare the integrity of the files to what is listed in their database. Because shareaza and many of the newer releases of P2P applications download in partial files from many peers there needs to be an authentication on whether the files are complete. These are my opinions of what is happening. Download 1.6! It seems to work really well so far!

Good luck and keep sharing!

Thumbs up Gnucleus!

I've tried (even coded for) a bunch of p2p clients; none of them come close to funcionality and suitability of Gnucleus (Shareaza comes right after). Its feature is bright. Open-source (Free as in freedom) software's power will soon take Gnucleus to the very top.

I must agree I like Sharaza, but I myself prefer Gnucleus..

The advanced tweeks can be done through editing the source code, since it's a very good opensource client that contains NO bundled crap or ads
