Patrick | Ok, if you've never used gnutella before, I would suggest beginning by doing a little reading. Read all the general documentation you can find, and try and learn how the gnutella network works. It is a lot different from Napster and if you don't take some time and learn a little bit about it you will be disappointed. Download Limewire, or Gnotella and read the documentation that comes with either of those servents. STAY AWAY FROM BEARSHARE!!! The Bearshare installation file contains spyware which can cause problems with your OS and who needs that headache when you're trying to learn about new software. There is also some question as to whether Bearshare ITSELF contains some kind of spyware, so I would suggest staying away from it.
Once you've learned a little about how these programs work and are comfortable with them, I would suggest switching to Gnucleus( http://www.gnucleus.com; http://gnucleus.SourceForge.net) which, in my opinion, is the best gnutella servent around. The reason that I would not suggest using it right off the bat is because it comes with very little documentation and might be difficult to set up as a first time user. But once you've learned one servent, the principles are the same and I think you'll be happiest with Gnucleus. Best of all, you don't have to worry about any privacy issues. it conatins NO SPYWARE and is OPEN SOURCE!
Enjoy, and don't be afraid to ask questions... |
