Do you have GWebcache uploaded?

Just curious whether you guys support the alternative caching system. :D

I agree there are so many new things coming up daily :)

Let's hope they are most for the good :)

Can you explain what this is and how we use it, also what benefits do we get from it.

In short:
The GWebcache system helps clients to find their first nodes to connect to more easiliy:

Paradog July 21st, 2002 07:21 AM

No offense Synfonic but please read before you post those questions...

Read the text on the link I gave you..

Syfonic July 21st, 2002 07:24 AM

When you say easily do you mean quicker or what?

RealBigSwede July 24th, 2002 11:48 AM

Caching????

Paradog, Is it working on all Gnutella clients? and dose it help with downloads? I read the link and I can't seen to find that answers.

tshdos July 24th, 2002 03:57 PM

Right now the GWebCache is just a way to get connected to the network. So when you start up your client it would contact a GWebCache instead of one of the hostcache servers. The speed ( in theory ) should be about the same as the current way but it is more decentralized. Right now there are only a handful of hostcache servers but there are many GWebCaches. Plus GWebCache servers run on web servers and use VERY little resources.

The future of the GWebCache may include features to help with downloads such as meshes and such but it currently does not.

AFAIK only shareaza and gnucleus support it. I think I remember reading that gtk-gnutella was also but I have never tried it.

I would run if I could but my ISP doesn't allow ASP or PHP on the webspace I got from them together with my cable account .

Paradog July 25th, 2002 01:49 AM

Yeah,
Maybe we're (we?) going to implement a blaclisting feature to kick out those evil guys who spread fake files around the net

RealBigSwede July 27th, 2002 06:35 PM

Paradog, in what folder is it supose to be installed in? Thanks for your info... I trying the "new" morph...

Paradog July 28th, 2002 03:02 AM

Doesnt mattter.
Just remember the URL from where you can access the file.
And then open Gnucleus and click on help - report Gwebcache.

In Shareaza you can add it in the discovery tab and then
rightclick on it and promote it.

RealBigSwede July 29th, 2002 08:19 AM

Thanks...

Doesn't shareaza already come with it?

Yeah, I mailed Mike Stokes and asked him to implement this feature.
Currently its just Gnucleus, Shareaza and of course all Gnucleus Clones (Atomwire, My Napster etc).
Oh right, and Suicide which is my client (which is not working).

evilmegaman August 6th, 2002 02:31 AM

No, I havent. I'm just saying that so I get more respect.
Of course I have created it, why else should I claim I did?

Hey, you're sorta funny.
You asked "Why isnt it working".
Now you ask "What isnt working"

WTF?

evilmegaman August 7th, 2002 08:14 AM

Because I'm still working on it.
The current code has been released on www.suicide-client.tk .
Its coded in VB 6.0 but tshdos who's sometimes around here is working on a .NET convertion.

If anybody knows a bit VB 6.0 it would be great if he helped us.
There are no properly working VB clients out there, so I think its time to get one running?
