i originally posted this in the open discussion forum, but i didnt get any answer on it. thought it would be better placed here.

original post:
i've been running LW for the past 24 hours and it seems 3 of my upload slots are being taken up by one host. trying to upload the same exact file in all 3 slots, and they have been in those 3 slots for the entire 24 hours!!

anyone shed some light what's going in here?!

thanks for the help

i just thought of a thread i was recently reading (cant remember which). it said that one of the vulneralbilites of the network is that it is susceptible to bogus requests. this would possibly tie up the available upload slots, blocking uploads for genuine requests.

am i close???

Could well be. One way to stop you from sharing files, is to fill all your upload slots with extremely slow connections. This way, it will take a while before the file is complete and able to share another file with someone else. Several things you could look at: Blocking IPs, minimum upload speeds, assign only one slot per IP, etc. I'm not sure whether LimeWire has these options though - I don't use it.

i did limit the number of upload slots per user to 1, which did take care of the problem.

but now i feel like i am giving less upload opportunities to everyone, which kind of sucks!

thanks for the response
