![]() Hi all, I’m a masters student at MIT and my thesis research involves modeling user behavior in P2P file-sharing systems. As part of my research, I’m conducting an ANONYMOUS survey that will help me model the P2P “system” as it exists today. The survey consists of 12 questions, and you can respond to all, some or none of them. The PHP data collection script does not log any identifying information – it simply logs a timestamp and the responses to each of the questions. If anyone can spend a few minutes to help out my research, I would really appreciate it. The link to the survey is: http://cc.media.mit.edu/p2p/ This survey is approved by MIT’s Committee on the Use of Humans as Experimental Subjects (COUHES). Information about confidentiality and other research guidelines can be found at http://web.mit.edu/committees/couhes..._surveys.shtml Feel free to email me at scase@mit.edu if you have any questions about the survey or the study itself. Thanks all for your help! Scott Case MIT Sloan 2004 |

![]() you should state that your survey is about using p2p for music downloads. How are you going to ensure only unique respondents without logging the IP? Frankly, such surveys seem to have so little authority. Best wishes anyway |

![]() I thought about that uniqueness concern but I decided that it was too sketchy to track IP address even for uniqueness concerns. That's why it timestamps each response -- I'll manually look through the records for similar responses in rapid fire since I probably won't get too many responses. I figured that was the best system to allow total anonymity. Thanks for your help. Hopefully I can come up with something meaningful with all this data that does have some authority. Scott |
