Gnutella Caching Proxy

I'm thinking of having a crack at writing something along these lines. Has anybody tried this before? What issues did they come across? Would anybody be willing to devote time to help develop it?

You ever tested gnut in daemon mode? I think you can configure it to something like that.

I would like to learn a little more about your ideas on a Gnutella caching proxy. What kind of job does it perform and in which situations would it be usable?
