old files, new computer If possible, how do you take old napster & lime files from an old computer and put them in a new one with lime-wire? I don't want to lose all that music. |
Burn baby burn The best way (at least it worked for me) to move mp3's from one computer to another is to burn them onto disc as folders or regular files and not audio files. You can get much more on a cd if you burn them as files/folders in the toast selection menu. When you get your new computer running, just download the files. It's also cool cause you will have backups of all your songs if something suddenly goes crazy or you want to wipe out your hard drive and start from scratch.:p |

lol! You either need to be connected to a network (ethernet cards are cheap...), have a speedy connection to the internet, or about 500 disks. I advise going to something like <a href="http://www.xdrive.com/">X-Drive</a> or some other file storing service if you have a fast internet connection. If you must resort to using disks, I recommend using Winzip. Create a new archive on a disk, and add all of your mp3's and such, no matter how large they are. <a href="http://www.winzip.com">Winzip</a> uses a disk-spanning utility that allows the user to use multiple disks... Just remember to label your disks, that always ends up bad trying to find the 64th disk out of 211 or something :). Happy spanning! |
you want to copy some (music-)files from one computer to the other, right? since you will probably not have a network at home, the easiest way should be to put your old harddrive in the new computer. so you can just copy the files you want as usual. :) |
Nullmodem cabel Hi... to connect two computers you can use a so called Nullmodem cabel. It might cost maybe $10. It allows you to build a network out of two computers. Wow! I was using a null modem serial cable on my Fox15 mHz 386 with the Turbo button to make it seem faster! I actually never got it to work, I even bought PcAnywhere for it... I did get it to work with a null modem parallel cable. I do not recommend serial cables. That really is a good idea though! What software comes with windows that will do that? Is there a cable network control panel icon? I can't remember now... Anyways, I recommend using a null modem parallel cable, not serial. All these options! |
or you could always remove the old harddrive from the old computer... change the jumpers to "slave" install in your new machine and copy... chances are this will allow it to work faster than any network transfer... |
And... Unless you are planning on selling the old PC, just keep the old harddrive right in the new one! Maybe even use the old RAM, certainly CD drive and Disk Drive, in fact, if you want to give them up my number is 555-555-5555. JOKING! |
