Well, actually, NO...

We won't be romping through your site, although the turkey was both ace and symptomatic !!!

If there had been just a wee bit of sumthin' to do with p2p filesharing it might have helped...

But now that the truly savage mod Peerless is lurking about here, I thought I'd protect you from his wrath and [Edit] you first !

Nice, hmmm ?

If you dwnlded a picture of my grandmother. I don't think you or I would be arrested! Sharing non-copyrighted material is legal. There's lots & lots of non-copyright material being shared be it music, video, poetry, short-stories, etc. But there is also material being shared that is copyright. LW does not condone the sharing of copyright material.

That's a tough question & not easily answered. I was asked that once before & I think my answer was to do a google search for the item. If it is from a formal business company & offered as a commercial product then you know it's most likely copyright. It can depend upon what you are looking to dwnld. You can develop techniques to find the right type of material to suit your needs.

If you wish to try Limewire (LW) then try the free version & see how you go. Any problems post here at the forum. You can get the free version from here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml If you don't like the program or don't like the concept of sharing that's fine. Try it & see how you feel about it. You can always uninstall it. ;)

Speaking of which, how long does the person have to be dead for before the copyright expires on the music?

backmann November 11th, 2004 07:58 PM

It depends on the laws of the country. I believe it's not after the author's death, but after the work's composition. Here, I think it's 70 years, but I could be wrong. It also depends on the kind of good you are talking about (i.e. a song, a book, etc.)

In the EU you can copy anything freely that was published more than 50 years ago. In the U.S. you'll have to wait 75 - 120 years. - I don't know about the rest of the world.

If you download songs that are copywrited and burn them to a CD to listen to for your own leisure, is that illegal?
