Default IPs in a Class C Network

When stepping through shared files, I see (in many cases) files, that lie on a host with IP 192.168.x.x

These are obviously unroutable hosts because they're in a private class C-Network, so a download from such a source could never succeed!

Am I wrong with this? Is a download possible?

And: why are people sharing files, if they don't want uploads?
Better do not share any files :-(

So far, scotti

You are only right if you are not part of the private network.
If the PC is in your network you can download files from them.
They need to share files because otherwise they want be able to download files from other users since most clients do not allow so called freeloaders.

for sure, i know, because i'm part of a similar network, but for sure i am not part of every lan! And it bothers me to get search results from hosts that are unroutable for me. But can I blacklist the IP-Range 192.168.0.0/24 to get rid of these unroutable offers?

Thats new for me and makes sense. But I prefer to use a client which allows freeloading instead of offering files and forbid uploads.

I have full sympathy for freeloaders if they uses a dialup modem- or isdn-connection. Because filesharing would be expensive!
But its not a good way to offer unreachable files.
Thats bad for the usability of this network!
