Downloads dissapeared

Let me begin by saying that I have tried to search for an answer
but probably don't know enough to put in the right query.

When a download is almost finished and I exit the program
and then start downloading again the percentage of
download drops to a fraction of the previous number. If
a download is 75% done and I exit and start downloading
again the percentage may be 5%. Why?

Also, did I read somewhere that it is best not to have a
large number of downloads in the que?

Edit: My OS is XP Home.....no SP2. I download via dial-up.

Do you dwnld more than one of each topic file. It sounds as though you've selected more than one of say a particular song for example. Then the next time the other copy has started dwnlding before the one with the greater % dwnlded. It happens. And yes it can be confusing if you do that. I'd be more concerned if they started form 0% everytime! lol :D If I'm wrong then please say. :)
