These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. Again... Again and again, it must be stated... LimeWire has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the content of files shared within the Gnutella Network... Neither does BearShare or Morpheus or ANY other Gnutella Network-based p2p 'client'. Any comment(s) re: 'undesirable' material that may be distributed within the Gnutella Network will be absolutely incorrect if any specific client is named and/or 'accused'.

'undesirable' material I need to know whether or not using either Limewire or the Gnutella servers = can people put images/music on my server, or can they only download what I have on there? In other words, is Limewire and Gnutella only for bandwidth and sharing, or are people actually going to start storing images and files on my computer? I want to make 100% people can't put files/images on my computer before I start using these programs. A quick response would be appreciated! Thanks. P.J. |

I suppose viruses and the other malware he mentions might trick your machine into becoming a source of illegal files, but that has nothing to do with proper filesharing software. Email or Web browsing would be equally at risk if you have a Windows machine. LimeWire only shares the files YOU decide,so carefully check your Library Pane to see if those are the files you approve. For a more "official" statement, see the link on LW's home page called "Click Here for Important Information about Using P2P Software Safely" http://www.limewire.com/english/content/ftc.shtml |

i had 2 friends that had kp on their machines but they did not put it their. one had files in the p2p shared dir and the other had files all over the place. their machines were running redhat like mine and redhat linux has a lot of holes if its not setup. if someone gets a hi user id by hacking a service like sendmail tftp telnet login or anoter service even apache they can pretty much do what they want on that machine. if files are put in a high trafc spot like a p2p shared dir, then the p2p app will begin sharing those files so it like a backdoor to a fileserver. our cUsers group has seen this a few. the other prob is with java on some p2p apps the java jvm that runs on the machine with the app can be vuln if its an older or oem vers. my shop machine was hacked thru telnet and java not the p2p. the p2p's are prety good overall. Illegal Porn here in the US, it is both illegal to possess, as well as selling, trading or any other venue of KP.....I was trying to find a movie myself (not porn) and damned if some kiddie porn came up of a 9 yr old having sex with an adult and what is worse, there were 39 users that had this same file on their pc....makes me sick to my stomach...anyway..back to the issue....it is illegal to own it in any form or shape...and no one wishes that I start on those that like to even watch it |

There may as well be hidden pictures within whatever files you've ever downloaded. It's trivial to hide a few megabyte of data in a movie, for example. Perhaps "the scene" has a custom tool hide in and extract data from such files. It doesn't even require encryption or anything complicated. Most file formats offer a way to include some data which will simply be ignored by players/viewers. Keep in mind that the vast majority of child abuse (sexually or not) happens in the FAMILY by the father, uncle, brother and all women aren't innocent either. People are just wasting their time and energy by blathering over this issue with respect to videos and photos on the internet. It's just a symptom not the real problem. Some useless politicans even dare to abuse the issue to create a police state in which everybody and everything can and will be completely controlled with no freedom left. It would be far better if everyone takes care that such things cannot happen in his own family and neighbour hood. Even if you shut the whole internet down, the abuse of children will continue. If you stop the abuse of children, there won't be any videos or photos to put on the internet. |

how does the law work regarding movies that feature 16yo's? that is the legal age of consent in a number of countries - - I know that you have to be 18 to star in a produced feature, but how does it stand if that person put's their home movie on the web? if it's amateur then hows that illegal? |
| |||
Amateur or "professional" doesn't matter at all. You are obviously not allowed to possess such material. The source is completely irrelevant. Home videos on the web is utter nonsense. Either those are faked, stolen or uploaded by an ex-boyfriend. None of that is a legit excuse for you to download it. |

Thanks for clearing that up. As many people will agree 90% of theadult files on the network are not what they are coded to be, so your average 18 y/o movie will infact be either CP or some 50 y/o mother with more tatoo's than ink allows and more peircings than a voodoo doll! I am well against CP and that, I was disgusted the other day when downloading a movie from another host I browsed their files, much to my amazment and disgust there must have been 200+ cp files there. No comes the prediciment on what to do?, do I a) report it - then get in trouble for downloading adult stuff from them (not CP by the way) or just shrug it off as life has it. I blocked the ip address striaght away so can't find out what it is again! |
