donny898 Your IP address is automatically allocated by your ISP, whether it is static (ASDL/broadband) or not (dial-up), then that IP is automatically logged. When you surf the net or the P2P network your IP address is recorded in the logs of the servers and PCs you have visited. You can see this in action when you check the Monitor section of LW, you can see the IPs of the PCs downloading shared files from you. Likewise, your IP can be seen by PCs you are downloading from.
