Default Question regarding Yahoo Online Protection

Hi there. I'm new here and I'm new to limewire; I just recently downloaded it and it seems to work great.

However, just not too long ago I saw an indicator from my SBC Yahoo! Online Protection, and it said that a certain registry or something was requiring my attention. It was Yahoo's Anti-Spy service. It told me that I needed to do a scan. Whenever I did so, it said that LimeWire was there, and it had 4 objects, all of them being apart of the catagory "Adware".

So, my question is, is Yahoo! Online Protection correct? It's been very useful for me, and it's anti-virus detector saved me from a virus in one of my own files I had on my drive for the longest time and never opened. So I have reason to be concerned, right?

Just curious. I appreciate the help.

Edit: Also, if you'd like an image of the desktop as it looks now, here it is.

So should I get rid of it, or let it sit there?

Hi Spectrum,

If you downloaded LW from the official site www.limewire.com then it will have no ad/spyware. A scam version may be a different story! Some programs will detect LW as adware, it's a false positive.

Do some research... search the forum (top right, between faq & home). Look for "adware in limewire" or something similar. Here's one thread, there are heaps more

Thanks for the reply, however I've already searched through some topics and the only thing I came up with was to ask if anybody knew if Yahoo is good enough to trust. My real question is, should I allow the "adware" to run or delete it?

And also, I did download LW from the site itself. I don't know where else I would have gotten it.

Btw, I've already check that topic. No one has mentioned Yahoo Online Protection, and that is why I'm asking it here.

I think the only reason why Yahoo's acting up is because LW is trying to make connections and registry changes or it did something else to make it think that LW was adware. I'm not entirely sure, all I know is that YOP doesn't like it.

I'm almost completely convinced that LW doesn't have adware, but I'm just being cautious. It might be something ELSE posing as LW, or it might just be something from LW that YoP thinks is adware. I don't know. I got plenty of ad blockers and pop-up blockers that I wouldn't know if it's affecting my net surfing.

Some anti-spy programs detect LW as having spyware or adware when it doesn't. According to this http://help.sbcglobal.net/viewlets/d...on/index.shtml you can put LW on a safe list so LW will not be detected again.

FYI about the anti-virus http://castlecops.com/t124894-SBC_Ya...Antivirus.html
