Problem Connecting to Gnutella Network I've come to realize that I am having a problem connecting to any part of the Gnutella network. I've tried Limewire, Frostfire, Phex, & Shareaza with neither of them connecting at all. I've tried every single help thread I've come upon here and still can't get anything to connect. Limewire was previously working for me about a month ago. We moved, kept the same ISP, didn't change any of the router settings at all. Firewall: Windows Firewall *Was allowing exceptions for all programs listed above ** Router: D-Link Dl524. *Has UPnP and I've already checked that it was enabled* ISP: Alltel DSL If there is something that I can try I would appreciate it but everything that has been listed here I have tried with no change in connection for either program listed above. Thanks! |

Can you provide the info asked for below. Can you give us a total description of your set up: 1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal) 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. * Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml 12. Do This test, Is the result True/False? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False 13. Do a speed test post the results here. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ |

Well that means port 6346 which is the default for any gnutella program is blocked. My guess is it's your router. D-Link 524 has UPnP abilities. Make sure it's enabled, else if UPnP doesn't work well for it, manually forward a port. http://portforward.com/routers.htm As for your softw firewall, did you set both limewire/gnutella & port 6346 to be open on your firewall? For LW that's Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) |

Or you might want to give the solution suggested by hughes in the thread below a try. At least one user said it worked. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...t=55461&page=2 |

Hi AaronWalkhouse Have you checked this out it isn't changing ports it is assigning a new IP address. It appears to work but I am not being blocked by my ISP so I do not know if it will do as they say. But I do know it changed my IP address. http://www.secureix.com/index.shtml |

AT&T blocks whole subnets, which means whole cities or counties at a time. (Oh, and using a proxy is iffy at best due to the heavy traffic. Go ahead and try but don't expect much throughput.) Last edited by AaronWalkhouse; April 10th, 2006 at 09:09 AM. |

Question, under international law isn't it a criminal offense to tamper with mail, snail or email. As for copyright, as an artisan, when I make things and sell 'em, I have sold 'em. If people wish to make and keep things, they should not sell 'em. Thats cake and eating it. However, to replicate for sale is what copyright is SUPPOSED to be about. The way it is being interpreted means that all these old records should be smashed when finished with, or better yet returned to the manufacturer for him to dispose of. They would love that. |
