Default Filesharing tracing - - Need Help!

I am going back to school at UWM up here in Wisconsin on the 19th and I just found out today that they trace and eliminate anyone from the network that uses filesharing programs. From what I can tell I think there running some t1s, it blazing fast. I want to know how can they trace me and how can I hide it. Any links or information about anything remotely realting to this is really apprectiated. Thanks.

On a campus, it is very easy to trace anyone, especially since the University has full control over their network.

Although there's a bit more involved, it basically comes down to this: They monitor certain ports, known to be used for filesharing, or check recently opened connections for identifiable strings.

Once it triggers an "alarm", they log the connection, look where the request came from (ie., based on the IP address used) and voila, you're baked.

It isn't really the concern for legal implications I believe, but moreso the constant bandwidth consumption.

Another thread is this forum gave a link to a program that makes my computer invisible to the network. Is something like this a way to circumvent explusion from the network? Any suggested programs?

I called the school today and they said that they are against students setting up servers on the network. Thats what they personally go after. The guy also said that Sony is who tracks down the music traders. How the hell is Sony going this?

I guess you don't have to be afraid of that ... Unless you share some TB of data

As you now the major labels try to shut down every file sharing system that violates law. But usually they do not put the lid on individual persons.

Probably you wanna read the article on TIME magazine that can give you the picture ...
