Question (new to gnutella) a minor problem with downloading speed

Dear gnutella network forumers,

How is everyone doing? I am R. G. H. Please to meet whoever I might get the chance to talk to in this thread.

I am a fairly new user to Gnutella. I have had the client for about a month now. I've been downloading lots of music and video clip files from it. However, I've noticed that there's been a gradual slowing down of the download speed as I've used it more and more. Is this normal with the client or am I doing something wrong? For reference, I have a tendency to leave my computer on (with a screen saver and monitor-sleep feature) for hours of a day or sometimes even for days. Does this affect Gnutella's performance?

Please let me know how I can fix this problem and how I can improve my speed. The sticky in this forum, sadly, seems to be catering to Limewire.

Thank you so much for any and all help that I may receive. Jolly good day. *hugs*

What client are you referring to?

Plz note that if you don't upload enough data, your downloads may slow down.

Hi, OldDeath. Thanks for your reply.

I have Gnutella Turbo. My downloads are extremely slow (ranging from a few bytes to the rare ocasion of a few hundred kegabytes); megabytes has never been the speed of the download, but I want this to be. Furthermore, I leave my computer and it's screensaver on days in a row, and more often then not, I still receive such a slow speed. Downloading 80 or 90 files of various sizes at a time, a completion of download only happens very occasionally. What must I do to increase the speed to the megabyte range?

Hello, Sweeter Bulstein. Pleasure to make your acquaintance as well.

Lol, gnutella turbo is only a bad fake version of Shareaza (AFAIK). You might want to download the real Shareaza, as it is most probable more up to date than gnutella turbo. (Which means it will work much better.) See: Shareaza - Bringing P2P Together

After this you might find my install and settings guide more usefull (which you might want to download before uninstalling gnutella turbo via this Magnet link: Shareaza install guide by OldDeath)

I'm back yet with another problem. haha

Thank you very much for your help, OldDeath. A quick use of your article was rather helpful in setting up Sharazea.

However, right now, I have a different problem, and I don't think it was covered by your article: I can't get some of my files to finish downloading when it's at close proximity to 100%. These files stop at 99% and remaining there for a while, despite having so many "sources" remaining. I currently have 8 files that are about done downloading but have remained at 98-99.95% for 2 1/2 weeks now. This also happened quite a bit back in the weeks of my Turbo use, and frankly, it's rather frustrating.

What should I do to make it possible for these almost complete files to finish downloading? Thanks again.

Yours in Gnutella rookies,
RGHRGH

There are files that cannot be downloaded 100%, for example if the initial source vanished before 100% of the file data has been uploaded to the network.

Also, you might have been downloading fake downloads (there are companies with multimillions of dollars that are only there to disrupt and spam in P2P networks or annoy the users in any other kind of way)

BTW, some general things you should always respect when downloading with Shareaza:
a) Make sure you have at least the G2 and eD2k networks enabled.
b) Make sure whatever file you're downloading has more than 3 or 4 sources; one of them at least on G2
c) Make sure the file you're selecting for download does display meta data (this requires 1 G2 source at least) in the search window and has a possibly correct file size (so a video file with some few KBs of size is most probably a fake, for example)

If you respect those two things, you get much better downloads in average

Does ShareAza not display meta data for G1 alone?
