Default I can't install...

either JRE or, obviously, LimeWire. I'm a super new (days old) Linux user, and I've been able to download both applications, but I can't figure out how to install them. I know .rpm's, but these are .bin's. So, how do I install .bin's?

Angry

normally the *.bin's files are executables. So, if not, made those files executables, by using "chmod" command or, if u have graphical interface installed (gnome or kde), right-click on files, click properties and check-on executable options.
.....good luck...

If you are using SuSE, make sure your /usr/lib/jre points to /usr/lib/jre1.3.1 or /usr/lib/jdk1.3.1/jre and (if it exists) /usr/lib/java points to /usr/lib/jdk1.3.1

You can create a symlink with:

ln -s /usr/lib/jre1.3.1 /usr/lib/jre

But I'm sure the konqueror offers a similar function with a gui.

Then you have to make sure, the .bin is executable.

If it still won't work, just get LimeWire for linux from http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download_other without the installer.

Default installing

go into your terminal,
chmod ugo+x filename.ext
then,
./filename.ext

I did this on mine, and it went just fine.

the linux installer will not work with Suse 7.3. you will have to dowload the tarball (.tgz) and run the program like so:

java -jar LimeWire.jar

enjoy,
altoine
