Talking NAPSHARE Works on Mandrake

After weeks of trying to get limewire to work with Mandrake 8.1, I downloaded Napshare and it installed with a simple rpm with no fuss. Amazingly it works! I can now download Gnutella content in Mandrake Linux. Interface is rough, but you get used to it. Hopefully LimeWire will figure out how to make a simple install procedure which does not require all the uninstalling of the Mandrake wizards and installing the Sun java. What a pain, I dont have time to reinstall Linux when LimeWire hoses my pc.

Maybe I will try again when LimeWire get a simple rpm install like NAPSHARE.

I don't want to sound elitist, but Linux is not for everybody.

Linux is not for the impatient or for those who refuse to learn new things (couldn't the same be said for Windows in certain situations?). It is however great for everyone else. But I think this guy is a just a Linux newbie and will eventually learn that installing anything on Linux is really very simple (once you learn how to do it, and once you have your system set up properly).

You guys are right, I am a Linux newbee. I just wanted to report it was easy to install Napshare to other new linux types like me. Your points are well taken except for the fact that for Linux to flourish and really challenge and beat the Windows monopoly, it will relie on gurus like you to make Linux easy enough for Windows morons like myself to use. I really hope Linux wins in the long run.

Thanks.

Dear Unregistered, I just want to bring the fact to your attention, that a packaged version of LimeWire for Linux does exist (although it's not an RPM but a simple tar-archive). You can find it at http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download_other

Simply unpack and run. (Oh and be sure, you got the JRE 1.3.1 installed)

As for packaged versions of software, you too will find out, that not any rpm will work on any system without some tweaking.
