Default Unsure what's going wrong...

When installing LimeWire I get the following error:

No Java virtual machine could be found from your PATH
environment variable. You must install a VM prior to
running this program.

I thought I had done that...hmm...anyone know what I can/should do to fix this and just install the program?

set the PATH in your environment:

use "$PATH" to show your path (assuming you are using bash)
use "export PATH=$PATH:[path to your JavaVM]" to set your path

your JavaVM might be located at

/usr/lib/java/bin
/usr/local/lib/jre/bin
/usr/lib/jdk1.4.0/bin

or a similar directory, it depends on which distribution you are using...

Yes, I had that I am using Mandrake 8.2.

The program cannot find java in your path. I loaded the latest j2re as an rpm. if you find it in the package manager you will find it installed (Mandrake 8.2) - assuming you laoded it in the rpm manager in the first place at /usr/java.

Add it to your path including the bin location, I added /usr/java/j2re1.4.0/bin to the path. Then I ran the program in the directory where I had loaded it, using sh LimeWire.sh. from a terminal.

if you use printenv it will list your present path, copy it and add the location of the java bin appending to the path.

Sounds like you are the victim of a typo. You either misspelled a word wrong or you put a semi-colon ";" where a colon ":" is supposed to go, or you put in a java path that does not reflect the java installed in your particular system.
