Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Still no luck installing LimeWire under Redhat 8.0, about ready to give up on LimeWire. I have downloaded jsdk1.4.1_01, and edited .bash_profile I have no kaffe I have entered "source .bash_profile" I am not installing under root but still ./LimeWireLinux.bin results in Warning: -Xmx100331648 not understood. Ignoring. Warning: -Xms16777216 not understood. Ignoring. not only do you not have to install under root, but installing as root is a baaaaaaaaaaad idea. Kaffe doesn't come with RedHat 8, so don't worry about that at all. Also, don't run the LimeWire binary by typing "./LimeWireLinux.bin" use "sh LimeWireLinux.bin" also, I'm not entirely sure, but I didn't download the Java 2 SDK, I downloaded the Java 2 JRE, though, other than development tools, there shouldn't be a difference..... The instructions I gave in the last thread assumed that you DID NOT download the RPM version of Java. If you did, the file locations will be different, try using the command: Code: [ @localhost home]$ java -version Code: java version "1.4.1_01" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-b01) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_01-b01, mixed mode) rpm -q java if you get a result there, then remove the Java RPM binary with: rpm -e java My next suggestion would be to follow the directions to the letter in the post I linked to earlier. There's no reason to download the SDK version, unless you're going to be doing software development, so delete that, get the JRE, and try again. I know for a fact it will install, and there shouldn't be too much of a difference between your system and mine. If after doing that, it still doesn't work, then I'm not sure what exactly the problem would be, and someone else on this forum would have to help. It's worth noting that I assume in my other post, that you downloaded everything to your home directory, if not, there will obviously be some changes. Also, can you paste your bash_profile here? To check for syntax errors. |

Finally, got it to work!! I had downloaded j2sdk1.4.1_01.rpm and followed Altoine's Sticky post for Sun RPM installs, to the letter. When I entered: java -version I got: java version "1.4.1_01" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-b01) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_01-b01, mixed mode) entering "./LimeWireLinux.bin" or sh LimeWireLinux.bin produced the same results: Preparing to install... Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive... Configuring the installer for this system's environment... Launching installer... Warning: -Xmx100331648 not understood. Ignoring. Warning: -Xms16777216 not understood. Ignoring. Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com.zerog.lax.LAX...... My .bash_profile's path was edited to include the j2sdk path to the java binary and I added a CLASSPATH statement for good measure (export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH I ensured I did not have kaffe installed then I entered source .bash_profile prior to entering sh LimeWireLinux.bin only to get the same error messages. So I downloaded j2re1.4.1_01 self extracting binary, ran it and edited .bash_profile to reflect the new JAVA_PATH. then entered source .bash_profile sh LimeWireLinux.bin and WA-LA LimeWire installation script ran and opened LimeWire for the first time I'm running it as I write this with no problems... connected, searching, downloading and sharing. Thanks to you folks for all your help. I would of never had thought of installing j2re. I would have continued thinking j2sdk included the same binaries and supporting files as j2re, plus the development files. I had been stuck for weeks with the same installation errors, screeninng the Forum for an answer. I'm glad I held out as long as I did to get it working. It was well worth it. Thanks again Juan |

Yes, glad to hear that you got it working. But j2sdk does have the same binaries as j2re. There might be something wrong somewhere but I'm going to figure it out. As I'm running the sdk version without a hitch. This is intriguing. Thank you for posting your solution steps and what not as that can be useful to other users. altoine Last edited by nDiScReEt; November 14th, 2002 at 11:43 AM. |
