Cool -jar not found...ignoring...[Solution]

If you recently upgraded to mdk 9.X and are experiencing the "Ignoring -jar" error...try the following.

-Check your java -version. If it changed or is different then what it was (assuming you have it working) then you will need to evert back to your older version of JRE.

-Try uninstalling LimeWire and Java. Reinstall java and Lime in that order.

I found that when you upgrade to 9.x you may have overwritten your current version with glib, which is worse off then sun.

Hope this helps.

Default update

PLEASE Read this is you are getting an error similar to this when trying to run LimeWire.

"-jar unrecognized.....ignoring"

I encounted this when I update Mandrake from 8.x to 9.x. However you might encounter the same problem at any other instance.

Heres the solution.

1) Uninstall Java. Make sure there are no packages related to Java installed. (For newbies: You can do this through your package Manager...just search for "Java", "j2", "jre", "jdk" AND PLEASE double check the package before uninstalling - a description will be given to the right telling you if it is java related for not.)

2) Download a new version of Java if you have no already done so. You only need to download the jre bin file.

http://www.blackdown.org/java-linux/mirrors.html

These are mirrors for Blackdown's java which runs just fine.

3) Copy the .bin file to...

/usr/local

4) Run the shell script...

sh /usr/local/<filename>

5) cd into your java folder located in /usr/local/. What you will need to do now is export the path where java is installed. These instructions will be located in the Readme or INSTALL file.

ex) type...

less Readme

6) Restart your kde session after you have edited your .bash_profile file.

At this point LimeWire will run. There are two ways of doing this.

On KDE 3.X)

-Right click your descktop
-Select "Create New"
-Select "Link to Application"
-Click the Execute Tab
-Browse to your "LimeWire" script where LimeWire is installed. This will NOT be your runLime.sh file. There should be a similar file simply called "LimeWire".
-Click OK.
-Click OK.
-If you look on your desktop there will be a new icon where you right clicked. Simply click that icon to run LimeWire.

Through Shell)

-cd to your LimeWire dirrectory.
-type in "sh runLime.sh"

This is for the D15L3x1c People who cannot rtfm.

If at this point you are still lost....

Do this...

-Restart your computer.

-Get into your Bios.

-Make the cd-rom your first boot device.

-Insert disk labeled "Windows 98 Setup"

-Save & Exit your bios changes.

-Go back to windows because linux is beyond your capabilities at this point.
