Hi mattnull,

I have the exact same problem. I am also running RedHat 8.0. Before installing LimeWire, I installed Java J2SE 1.4.01, the latest version of Java and its Virtual Machine. Here is what happened when I tried to install Lime Wire through a terminal:

[root@localhost root]# /tmp
[root@localhost tmp]# sh ./LimeWireLinux.bin
Preparing to install...
Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive...
Configuring the installer for this system's environment...
No java virtual machine could be found from your PATH environment variable. You must install a VM prior to running this program.
[root@localhost tmp]#

I posted a message about it on Sun Microsystem's Java Developer Forums, but have yet to receive a reply. Then, I thought maybe LimeWire had a forum, looked and posted here.

Hope we get an answer soon.

Default same here

same problem here, on RH8 looks like there's a way to force where to look for the vm, but I can't find any good docs on it..

p.s. I'm originally from Winston-Salem.

got it recognizing my jvm by adding this to my ~/.bash_profile:

export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/j2re1.4.1_01
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:$JAVA_HOME/bin

your java path may be different.

Installing now..

Rule #1:

Never ever ever ever install LimeWire as root unless you know how to change and/or add user ownership.

Rule #2:

If you are going to install as root, it would pay to put the PATH statements into your /root/.bash_profile or /root/.bashrc depending on your system.
