Default linux (debian/woody) missing fonts for limewire1.5

can't run new 1.5 limewire because of missing fonts (actually it runs, but can't read)

typical message

Font specified in font.properties not found [--symbol-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-adobe-fontspecific]

Are you sure it is the fonts? I received the same messages with LimeWireOther.zip, and now LimeWire 1.5 . Not a single font seems to be recognized, but I can still read everything just fine. I use red hat btw.

Default I think it is the fonts

after the error messages subside, I get a little
box for LimeWire that just says "welcome". I can't see anything else and there is no response to mouse clicks from anywhere on that box. It
doesn't crash, just can't do anything with it.
The only indication is the fonts error messages.

Well, see, it's not actually an error message. Have you tried re-downloading it? The "Welcome" message seems a bit odd. Mine just starts up with the LimeWire screen, as it always has in previous versions. No "welcome" at all.

The problem with the welcome message is a windows resizing problem© The developers of Limewire have not made the welcome window resizable hoping that it will be displayed at an adequate size© Unfortunately this is not the case and the window is way too small making it impossible to click on whatever is there to progress further© I can't understand why the developers have done this as they were aware of the problem with version 1©4b as there was a previous thread about it© Its quite easy in Java to make windows resizable and the Linux version needs this© Its also quite obvious that limewire developers don't believe in testing but just release stuff and hope that it works© As for the fonts problem this just means you don't have those fonts on your system and it is not a problem if it annoys you can edit the font©properties file „ in ~jre/lib¤and place a # in front of those fonts you don't have© Check which fonts you have in ~/jre/lib/fonts
bye

Hi it's me again I just wrote the above message© I have managed to get 1©5 working now© I did it by copying my old 1©4 limwire©props file into the new 1©5 directory© It appears that if Limewire see that limewire©props is configured it does not display that stupid welcome message©
bye again

Lightbulb small welcome window

I had the problem with the welcome window too and I somehow fixed it by using JDK instead of JRE .. and I wonder why ;-)

Default reponse from original poster: still not fixed for me

OK, I fixed the error messages about the fonts
as suggested (commenting out from font.properties)
However, copying over the 1.4b limewire.props
file into the 1.5 directory and then running v1.5
did not fix my little welcome window problem.
What about file ownership and protection setup?
Maybe it is not seeing the limewire.props file
because of that.

„You may have to change/create the directories to suit your setup¤

Default still having problems

Thanks for your copy of the limewire.props.
I have used it and now have a different error/problem. I no longer see the welcome
window, but I get an error:
fea_home::/usr/local/LimeWire/v1.5/: limewire

My PATH includes the newly-installed java per the
installation instructions

I get a box on the X11 screen:

LimeWire has encountered the following error:
java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException
Please send this error to bugs@limewire.com

The first line in the limewire.props is

MAIN_CLASS=a.a.a.b.Main

What is the problem here?
